Each Build & Battle Box includes a 40-card ready-to-play deck featuring key cards from current and prior sets and features one of four unique foil promo cards. It also contains four Pokémon TCG: Mega-Evolutions Phantasmal Flames booster packs and a deck-building tip sheet. Players are allowed to modify the deck using the cards found in the booster packs.

Although they retain an element of tournament structure, pre-release events are designed to be casual events, suitable for any standard (or age) of player.

Each event is approximately 3 hours (30 minutes for deck building, and 3+ rounds of approximately 30-40 minutes each with 4 prize cards)
